BARE, JACOB

Jacob Bare was born April 19, 1987 in Tacoma, WA, and eventually moved to Chewelah, where he graduated from Jenkins High School in 2000. As a young man, Jacob enjoyed scuba diving, skating, snowboarding, shooting, and riding BMX bikes. While in high school, Jacob’s quick thinking and intuitive nature, performed the Heimlich Maneuver on a classmate who was choking. Jacob never wanted any accolades for any outstanding action on his part, he always deemed it a natural result of his love for his fellow man and Country. 

Immediately after graduating, he enlisted into the Navy and quickly strove towards goals that he was passionate about, including becoming a US Navy Diver; ultimately, working alongside Navy SEAL’s Charlie Company.  

Upon joining the Navy, his first assignment was onboard DDG 86, USS Shoup. After completing Dive School in 2008, Jacob was assigned to Charlie Company, Seal Delivery Vehicle #1.  

Navy Diver Petty Officer 2nd Class (ND2) Bare served both in Iraq and the Persian Gulf, and as a result he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. His other medals included: Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Surface Warfare Pin.  

ND2 Bare was also one of the few Navy divers that was selected to attend US Army Jump School in Fort Benning GA, earning his Jump Wings in 2010. 

Jacob was a humble person with much enthusiasm and exuberance in everything he did. He had a sense of humor that was contagious. He always gave 100% to every task he did.  

The Washington State Fallen Heroes Project proudly remembers ND2 Jacob Bare for his service, sacrifice, and commitment to our nation. His life continues to inspire all who learn his story.
