BOSWELL, MICHAEL

Michael T. Boswell was born on 03 June 1984 in Spokane Washington and was raised in Chattaroy until he moved to Newport Washington, his sophomore year where he would go on to graduate from Newport High School. Growing up he loved the outdoors which included hunting in the Colville mountains, fishing at the numerous lakes and rivers, and camping with his family at Pierre Lake where he would ride dirt bikes, and rope swing with his brother and friends.  

Michael participated in many sports, however, he thrived in baseball. As a catcher, he earned the nickname “Boz” due to his quick reactions and rocket fire arm. He was selected as the top catcher in Northeast Washington State which resulted in being selected to the all-star tournament in Wenatchee, WA. He played two seasons of summer league baseball for the North Stars and upon graduation from Newport HS, he received a baseball scholarship to college; however, after a short time playing, he realized he had accomplished his goals and there was something bigger in life for him to accomplish.  

SN Boswell enlisted in the United State Navy’s Delayed Entry Program on 10 September 2004, and left for Boot Camp in Great Lakes, Illinois on 26 April 2005. Upon graduation, he attended Aviation Mechanic Technical School in Virgina Beach, Virginia.  

SN Boswell passed away on 02 December 2006 at the age of 22. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.  

From his family – Michael’s the greatest son, brother, uncle and friend. He always made us laugh and enjoy life to the fullest. Michael is the bravest person we know because he was never afraid to do the right thing, as well as inspire others to do the same. He loved the Navy and was very proud to be affiliated with the Marines. We’ve been told that Michael wore a Marines uniform better than most Marines, and he was a sailor. He was committed to his country and felt great honor as he upheld the code of ethics. My son left home a boy and returned to us as a great man. 

The Washington State Fallen Heroes Project proudly remembers SN Michael Boswell for his service, sacrifice, and commitment to our nation. Our hope is that his life continues to inspire all who learn his story.
