EWENS, FORREST

 

Forrest P. Ewens was born in 1981 and grew up in Gig Harbor until his family moved to Chewelah.  

In 2000, Ewens enrolled at Whitworth College along with his twin brother Oaken Ewens. He became a member of the Bulldog Battalion, the joint Gonzaga Whitworth ROTC program, where he met his future wife Meghan, who also served in the U.S. Army.  

In 2004 Ewens graduated from Whitworth with a degree in History. 

After graduation, he became an infantry officer with the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division of Fort Drum, NY.  

Lt. Ewens was killed while serving in Afghanistan June 16, 2006. He died in Pech River Valley, Afghanistan, when his all-terrain vehicle struck an improvised explosive device while delivering medical supplies. 

Both he and his accompanying sergeant were killed from the roadside bomb.    

Forrest Ewens had a genuine love of country.  He believed in the values for which our nation stands.  Always a man of action, Forrest volunteered to earn an Army officer commission to support and defend our Constitution, against all enemies, foreign and domestic, for love of country and our way of life.  

Forrest Ewens had a huge heart.  Combined with a curious mind, his heart led to living life with passion.  Everything he decided to do, he did so with zeal.  

Lt. Forrest Ewens is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
