JOHNSON, TIMOTHY

​Timothy L. Johnson was born on October 26, 1979, at Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico and moved to Idaho at a very young age where he attended and graduated from Mountain Home High School in Mountain Home Idaho in 1998. After graduation, Tim moved to Phoenix where he attended the High Tech Institute’s 18 month Drafting program. He remained in the Phoenix area until he joined the United States Marine Corps in 2003.  

Tim truly lived his life to the fullest by spending time with family, traveling, volunteering and numerous sporting activities including golf, softball, snowboarding and pickleball. He traveled to South Africa for a safari, went to the Super Bowl in Indianapolis, and the attended the World Cup Soccer tournament. Tim also volunteered to teach kids golf with the First Tee program, and was very involved with the Wounded Warrior Program.  

Sergeant (Sgt) Johson joined the Marine Corps in 2003 and served as a Military Policeman and Specialized Search Dog K-9 handler to his dog Sped, a yellow lab. Specialized Search Dogs have an off-leash capability to search for explosives ahead of foot patrols. Sgt Johnson deployed to Iraq with Sped, and during that deployment the camp they were at was attacked by mortar rounds where Sped was hit with shrapnel and received the Purple Heart, however, he continued his deployment. Sgt. Johnson also spent time at the range as a Marine Corps Marksmanship Instructor/coach, and reached the rank of Sgt in 3 years which is highly uncommon in the Marine Corps Military Police field.  

Sgt. Johnson lived by two motos in life: “live life to the fullest” and “fight till the end” which is exactly what he did. Sgt Johson was diagnosed with the uncurable Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. The average life expectancy is 15-18 months, Tim lived for 4 ½ years before he passed away on October 4, 2015.  

The Washington State Fallen Heroes Project proudly remembers Sgt. Timothy L. Johnson for his service, sacrifice, and commitment to our nation. His life continues to inspire all who learn his story.
