KELLUM, JUSTIN

​Justin G. Kellum was born on October 19, 1981, in Wenatchee WA to Christopher and Diana Dawson. Justin grew up in both Wenatchee and Lamont and graduated from Saint John Endicott High School in St. John WA. A year and half after graduation, Justin joined the United States Coast Guard and returned home after boot camp. Just 1 day prior to him leaving from Washington to go to his first duty station, Port Clarence Alaska, 9/11 occurred, delaying his reporting date.  

EM3 Kellum went on to serve 6 faithful years, obtaining the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class, as an electrician’s mate ultimately responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems on both Coast Guard ships and shore units. He was stationed in Alaska, US Coast Guard Station Boston, and his final duty station at Sault Ste. Marie Michigan.  

Justin married his wife Erika Kellum on July 17, 2010, in Saint John and they would go on to have four children, Trinity, Shylah, Chaise and Janie. Justin loved camping, hiking, and spending time with his children and family. Also, Justin was active in mission work with Young Life Ministries attending mission trips and camps which were truly a special time in his life. 

Upon getting out of the Coast Guard, Justin would go on to graduate from Eastern Washington with a degree in Engineering. 

EM3 Kellum passed away on April, 08, 2018 and is laid to rest in the Washington State Veteran’s Cemetery in Medical Lake. After Justin’s passing, many people shared stories with his family of how he helped them through their rough times, some even saying he saved their lives when they felt hopeless. He had a huge heart and loved his family fiercely and with immense passion, and even in times when didn’t have a lot, he would literally give the shoes off his feet for someone how had none.  

The Washington State Fallen Heroes Project proudly remembers EM3 Justin G. Kellum for his service, sacrifice, and commitment to our nation. His life continues to inspire all who learn his story.
