MARTIN, ETHAN

Ethan M. Martin was born on December 30,1989, and his childhood years were spent hunting, fishing, and playing in Bonners Ferry, Idaho until his sophomore year in high school. He then moved to Lewiston, Idaho where he spent most of his time with friends, driving his car and loving life. Ethan had one sister, four stepsisters, and three stepbrothers 

Ethan graduated in 2009 from Lewiston High School and shortly after he made the decision to join the United States Army in December of that same year. He attended boot camp in Fort Knox, Kentucky and then served as a Paratrooper with the 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.  

Loved by everyone that knew him, Ethan had a special talent for touching the lives of everybody around him. His contagious smile, joy-filled laugh, and amazing sense of humor made Ethan the incredible person he was. Ethan was always willing to help anyone, putting their needs before his own no matter what. He will forever be remembered for his carefree attitude, love of life, goofy smile, and his incredibly annoying habit of never planning anything more than an hour in advance. He has made a mark on the lives of his family and friends that will touch them forever and will never be erased. 

Inspired by his desire to attend nursing school after he got out of the military, A Salute to our Heroes Foundation established the Spc. Ethan J. Martin Scholarship Fund in 2019 to help others with similar aspirations. The program, supporting residents in Kane County Illinois, is open to assist children of select active duty, reserve, or retired members of the United States Military Branches of Service who plan to continue their education in college and or trade school.  

SPC Martin was killed in action on August 07, 2012 when his until came under a small arms attack in Koragay Afghanistan.  

SPC Martin’s military awards include the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Combat Action Badge, and the Army Good Conduct Medal. 

The Washington State Fallen Heroes Project proudly remembers SPC Ethan M. Martin for his service, sacrifice, and commitment to our nation. His life continues to inspire all who learn his story.
