OWEN, DEVERAN

Deveran L. Owen was born on May 4, 1986, and is from Arlington, WA. While we don’t know much publicly about his life as every family is different in how much they share and when they are ready to do so. We will always respect the families wish, but we want to ensure that his name is read, his service is honored, and his memory and name stays alive.  

According to a friend she wrote: Every Memorial Day and many other days you are remembered and missed so dearly. Your mischievous smile was the stuff of legend, as was the mischief that followed. You were the “big brother” that PTSD took way too early. You had a big, sensitive heart even though you tried to hide it. I hope I’m making you proud and wish you were still here today to share adventures with me. We made a steak and taters yesterday and listened to Flogging Molly for you just like I promised I would. I could almost imagine you by my side picking on me while I was doing it. I hope you are at peace my friend.” 

PFC Owen passed away on July 23, 2008, from an accidental gunshot from a firearm he thought was unloaded. He had just returned home from a 15-month deployment to Iraq on July 3, 2008.   

The Washington State Fallen Heroes Project proudly remembers PFC Deveran L. Owen for his service, sacrifice, and commitment to our nation. Our hope is that his life continues to inspire all who learn his story.
