WEEKLEY, JONATHAN

Jonathan D. Weekley was born on July 18, 1990 in San Bernardino, CA to parents Tina and Len Weekley. His mother later remarried to Rod Hall, who would raise Jon with her. A hellraiser from the start, Jon would go on to live a beautiful life in his short 28 years. Jon was raised in southern CA, and as a young child, he could often be found getting into mischief with his sisters Vanessa and Kelsey Marie. Jon enjoyed playing endless practical jokes, spending time at the skatepark with his friends, enjoying his passion for music and was a self-taught guitarist. He also enjoyed heading up to Big Bear on the weekends to visit his grandparents and spent many summers in Orange County soaking in the sunshine and waves with his sisters and beloved Aunt and Uncle.  

Eager to jump into adulthood, Jon graduated high school early. Then at 17 years old, he begged his mother to sign the papers to allow him to enlist in the U.S. Army. He joined as an infantryman and quickly settled into the military life, where he worked his way through the ranks, deploying twice and completing various assignments along the way, including being a recruiter and burial detail for fallen servicemembers.  

While stationed at Ft. Bliss Texas, SSG Weekley met the love of his life Casey. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married before Jon’s first deployment to Afghanistan. The couple later moved to Joint Base Lewis-McCord, WA where they welcomed their firstborn child James. The family would later relocate to Fort Bragg, NC where daughter Ruthann would complete their family.  

One of his most joyous occasions was finally joining the Airborne forces. He always raved about how there was nothing like the thrill of the jump. Jon deployed to Germany shortly after. With fierce dedication, he was accepted into a psychological operations unit, where. he accomplished many things including becoming fluent in Russian and achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. 

When not working, Jon enjoyed spending nights around the bonfire with his family and friends. Jon loved teaching his children to skateboard, ride bikes and how to work on cars. With a huge heart, Jon loved people and made it his mission to ensure there was never a stranger in his company. He would bring meals to the gate guards who were working on the holidays. His home was always open to anyone who needed a place to stay, a warm meal, or just an ear to listen.  

On July 10, 2019, his life was tragically cut short in an accident in San Antonio Texas, before leaving to start his training in the Warrant Officer Candidate School, where his dream was to become a helicopter pilot.  

The Washington State Fallen Heroes Project proudly remembers SSG Jonathan D. Weekley for his service, sacrifice, and commitment to our nation. Our hope is that his life continues to inspire all who learn his story.
