WOZENCRAFT, ERIC

Eric P. Wozencraft was born on February 19, 1986 in Shawnee, Oklahoma and attended Mannford Public Schools, and Charles Paige High School in Sand Springs.  

CPL Wozencraft completed an 8-month deployment to Iraq, serving as a turret machine gunner. While deployed, his duties included patrols at a hydroelectric plant and dam near Samarra. During his time in service, he made a direct impact on those that were lucky enough to serve with him. According to a fellow Soldier, SGT Ford said "he was the perfect soldier. He mesmerized us by how good he was doing as a squad leader." Ford also stated that during a training exercise just days before Eric’s accident, "about fifteen minutes into the frog hopping drill, in pain I looked over at 'Woozy' and there he was just smiling and hopping…Woozy was always smiling." 

CPL Wozencraft leadership was noticed by all ranks in the chain-of-command and was being groomed for a promotion to Sergeant. This was evident, as Eric was promoted to Corporal posthumously after his death. 

CPL Wozencraft was assigned to Mortar Platoon, HHC Company, 1st Brigade, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Georgia. He had completed one deployment to Iraq. 

CPL Wozencraft was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident when a minivan turned into this path, even though he was driving 10 M.P.H. under the speed limit and wearing all the appropriate safety gear.  

His military awards included the Army's Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Drivers Badge, and the Combat Infantry Badge. 

Eric was a defender of freedom for all, and put God, Country, and his Unit before himself. 

Eric is survived by: parents, Tom and Nancy Wozencraft; sisters, Jennifer and Kelly; grandparents, Wally and Fran Wozencraft; uncle, Rick and wife, Gina Wozencraft; cousins, Jeff and Alex; uncle, Chris and wife, Julie Wozencraft; uncle, Ken and aunt, Kathy Casey; uncle, Robert C. Turner; aunt, Julie Hallamyer; and aunt, Debbie Turner.  

The family suggests donations to Sand Springs Blue Star Mothers.
