ZORN, KIRBY

Kirby L. Zorn was born on July 21, 1989 in Alaska and as a young child moved to Washington State, then to Florala, Alabama where he would become a 2007 graduate of Kingston High School. While growing up, Kirby enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his dirt bike and woodworking. After having a few friends from high school passed away from drug overdoses, he had a goal of working for the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) so that others didn’t have to endure what he went through with the loss of his friends. 

At 16 years old, Kirby made the decision to move out of his mother’s house and live on his own. He worked for a carpenter where he would build pallets and help to remodel homes. All the while he lived on his own and worked to pay for his own bills he managed to get straight A’s through high school.  

As Kirby’s father, Mike who is a 100% Service-Connected Disabled Veteran, he had the opportunity to go to college in either Washington State or Alabama free of charge. However, Kirby decided to join the Marine Corps and attended boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon completion of boot camp, he attended the Advanced Infantry Training at Camp LeJeune North Carolina. 

PFC Zorn received orders to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division at Camp LeJeune and had orders to deploy to Afghanistan. However, prior to his deployment PFC Zorn died in a motorcycle accident on 08 August 2008.    

The Washington State Fallen Heroes Project proudly remembers PFC Kirby L. Zorn for his service, sacrifice, and commitment to our nation. Our hope is that his life continues to inspire all who learn his story.
