Fallen Story
Jacob Keith Bare was born on Easter Sunday, April 19, L987,in Tacoma, WA. As a child, Jacob was very lively, animated, adventurous, and full of life. In fact, in school, he got an award for being "lively." Jacob's first courageous battle was having severe jaundice after birth. Jacob came from a military heritage of his grandfather being in the Army, uncle in the Navy, and father (Keith) served some time in the Air Force. Jacob was raised mostly by his step-father, Duane Reese, and enjoyed the family beach cabin at Puget Sound. He loved spending time there especially over 4th of July, one of his favorite holidays. Jacob went to Jenkins High School; he participated in the football team. In 2003, his quick thinking and intuitiveness saved a classmate's life by performing the Heimlich maneuver. Jacob was involved in both Boy Scouts and Royal Rangers. He loved to snowboard, ride his BMX bike, and diving under water. After graduating from JHS in 2005, he enlisted into the Navy. Jacob took his military career seriously and anytime I wanted to know everything he was doing, he would always say "loose lips sink ships." In fact, our family never even knew he served in the Persian Gulf and in Iraq until after his death. He earned the meritorious service medal and wouldn't even mention it. Jacob was never one to build himself up and brag. Jacob started out as a hull tech on the USS Shoup and was then transferred to the Seal unit to be a diver and drive a seal deliverty vehicle for Seal Team One. One time, he helped to guide the helicopter down on the ship for the last Transformers movie. Not only was Jacob a diver, he had the privilege to earn his jump wings. His Lieutenant Colonel shared several funny stories about Jacob; one of which is when he would snap a salute under water after being given a command. His Lieutenant stated "Jacob knew just enough on how to annoy me but still made my day." Jacob had 2 brothers (Jason Hensel and Kyle Reese). He also had 2 sisters (Mariah Bare and Tasha). During his service in the Navy, along with earning the Meritorious Service Medal, he also earned the Navy Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, The Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Meda,, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Rifle Expert Medal, the Pistol Expert Medal, and the 2nd Class Diver Warfare Insignia, and flight wings. Jacob passed away on Fevruary 6,2017 in Pearl City, Hawaii. Jacob is dearly missed and will always be our hero!
