Fallen Story

"Army Lt. Col. Steven Davis saluted the casket of his former tanker platoon member, Alan R. Johnson ""When he was given a task, no matter how big or small, he would always respond, 'Roger _ I'll take care of it,"" said Davis. Johnson, 44, of Yakima, Wash., was killed Jan. 26 in Balad after his vehicle struck an explosive in Muqdadiyah. He was assigned to Tonawanda. Johnson grew up in Montpelier, in south central North Dakota, and graduated from high school there in 1981. After five years he moved to the Washington National Guard. By 1986 Johnson earned a bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University and an officer's commission. For 15 years, he worked at the Yakima County Department of Corrections. Steve Robertson, director of the department, described Johnson as ""loyal, hardworking, dependable and every other Boy Scout trait you can manage to come up with."" He is survived by his wife, Victoria, and a stepdaughter, Megan. ""The best thing I can say about Alan is that I respected him,"" said Sgt. Karen Kelley. ""After all, how many men can say that they have a sticker that says 'I love my wife' on their truck?"" 17/12/2011 joseph i milewski Not a day goes by that I don't miss you. You helped me become a better soldier, person, and now husband. Thank you!"
