"SFC Benjamin B. Wise, 34, of Little Rock, AR, died January 15, 2012 Serving During Operation Enduring Freedom. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA. He passed away at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, of injuries sustained Jan. 9 in Balkh Province, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with small-arms fire. Benjamin graduated from West Side Christian High School in 1995 and entered the Army in November 2000 as an infantryman. In 2005, SFC Wise volunteered for the Special Forces Assessment and Selection Course and was selected to continue training as a medical sergeant in the Special Forces Qualification Course. After graduating in 2008, he was deployed once to Iraq and twice to Afghanistan. The Army Ranger is survived by his wife, Tracy; their two sons, Luke and Ryan; and a daughter, Kailen. Benjamin’s family described him as a loving husband, devoted father, caring son and selfless soldier. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart and Meritorious Service Medal."
